Outer Wall of Skellig Rock

The monks carved a plateau which was surrounded by an outer wall. On the outside of the settlement was the garden (Photo on right). The effect of the construction was to create a warmer climate within the walls of the monastery. Note also how small the boats look below.

Beehive Hut

The monastery contains a number of beehive huts and two churches.

Main Church

The photo on the left shows what was the main church where the community celebrated mass and prayers. On the other photo one can see the light coming through the window inside and also the view from the window.
